How to create a genuinely strong password
A useful password is difficult to guess and unique to a single account. Adding a number to a familiar word is not a reliable security strategy.
Choose length and genuine randomness
People often choose predictable names, dates and keyboard patterns. Prefer a generator that uses a cryptographic random source. If the service allows it, 16 or more random characters are a practical starting point, but requirements depend on context.
Keep every login unique
After a service suffers a breach, attackers may try exposed username/password combinations on unrelated websites. A reliable password manager helps you create and store different credentials without memorizing dozens of random strings.
Add more than one defense
Multi-factor authentication helps reduce risks from stolen passwords. Where available, consider passkeys or phishing-resistant security keys. Always inspect the website address before entering credentials; MFA alone cannot stop every kind of attack.
Protect the password after creating it
Do not share passwords in messages, store them in unprotected notes or paste them into suspicious pages. Clipboard managers, malware and overprivileged extensions may expose copied secrets even if those secrets were randomly generated.
For a new account: generate a long unique password, save it in a trustworthy manager and enable MFA whenever possible.
